AQA GCE A Level English Language and Literature
English Literature is assessed in the following way:
Controlled Assessment (20%) Examination (80%)
Students will study tragedy through Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’, ‘Tess of the D’Urbervilles’ by Thomas Hardy and ‘Death of a Salesman’ by Arthur Miller. Study of political and protest writing including ‘The Kite Runner’ by Khaled Hosseini, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ by Margaret Atwood and the poetry of William Blake. Non-examined assessment is coursework based on independent reading.
English Language is assessed in the following way:

Students study the language of the individual and society; diversity and change and undertake the non-exam assessment which is a piece of original writing and a language investigation of their choice.
