Modern Foreign Languages at Post 16

Key Stage 5
AQA A level in French
AQA A level in German

Studying a language at A level helps students develop confidence, effective communication skills in the language and a thorough understanding of the culture of countries and communities where that language is spoken. It develops an interest in, and enthusiasm for, language learning and encourages students to consider their study of the language in a broader context.

This four-unit specification requires students to develop their ability to write and speak in the foreign language with accurate grammar and syntax for a range of purposes and to understand written or spoken French of German in a variety of contexts and genres.
This course is particularly suitable for students who have studied GCSE French or German and who wish to study these Languages at a higher level.

The topics studied focus on current issues of the Target Language countries, its cultural and political life. We also study a film in Y12 and a book in Y13.

The four skills (Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing) are assessed at the end of the course.

Paper 1: Listening, Reading & Writing 2hr30 100 marks
Paper 2: Writing on the film and the book 2hrs 80 marks
